From the daily "Diario oficial de avisos de Madrid" March 25, 1887 page 2. The original Spanish text begins in the "Noticias" section in the last paragraph in the left column of the 4 at the bottom.

"Having just returned from Andalucia to this capital, here is the guitarist, José Martinez Toboso.

He plans to give some concerts in Madrid before leaving for Paris.

And using this purpose, he has been hired by the owner of the Romero café, located on calle Atocha.

Last night we had the pleasure of hearing the distinguished artist. In the presence of a very large audience,

he performed several selected pieces, among them some very

difficult and beautiful ones for guitar, such as the serenade of the "Fantasia Morisca y Moraima,"

Guajiras, Soleares, a beautiful Waltz and an original soulful Jota, a composition by the performer.

We say nothing of the astonishing nature of the

execution or of the marvelous nuances that his inspiration gives to the works

he interprets.

We prefer to leave the pleasure of surprise to our readers."
