When this was made there were no Flamenco Guitars per se, just student models, intermediate models and concert models- this one being una Guitarra economica- a good guitar without the most expensive wood- Brazilian Rosewood. Even lesser expensive models would have been made in Valencia, for the prestigious Manuel Ramirez shop in Madrid. Fine to Medium grain Spruce Soundboard and Spanish Cypress back and sides. The Indian Rosewood fret board has 18 frets and is dead straight, with no fret wear. All Original French Polish. Deluxe Mother of Pearl Rosette. It weighs 23 ounces, 1 pound 7 1/3 ounces. The soundboard is supported by 5 finely sanded fan braces. There are smaller than usual separate kerfing pieces attaching the top to the sides with a notched single band attaching the back to the sides Original Bone Nut and Bone Saddle 47 mm Nut 552 mm Scale. The height of the strings is 4/32" under the 1st and 6th strings at the 12th fret. The gears have screws and nails holding them in. There is a 64 mm lower bout thickness of the sides. At this time Santos Hernandez, Domingo Esteso and Modesto Borreguero were making instruments at this shop. The text of the label is: Manuel Ramirez Constructor de Guitarras Segunda Epoca Año 1911 Arlaban 10, Madrid. This label is a rare Manuel Ramirez label, one of my colleagues has seen only 6 of these labels in 50 years, the others being such as the normal label affixed to Andres Segovia's 1912 Manuel Ramirez guitar, which was made by Santos Hernandez, the foreman of the Manuel Ramirez shop. "Segunda Epoca" means Second Epoch, a take from the labels of the last decades of the immortal Antonio de Torres' numbered guitars.
