650 mm scale, 52 mm nut, Medium grain Spruce Soundboard and Cypress back and sides. French polish. Separate pieces attaching the Soundboard to the sides and a single liner attaching the back to the sides. 7 finely sanded fan braces. No cracks in the top or sides.
Alfonso Checa opened his shop in Baza, Granada in 1935. He won 1st prize in Madrid in 1953, at the International Exposition of Artisans =Exposicion Internacional de Artesania.
He trained his sons Jose and Vicente Checa, Vicente Perez Checa, Antonio Ruiz, and Pedro Martínez Peñalver. Pedro Martinez Peñalver started with him as an apprentice in 1962, and took over his workshop after his death in 1977. As Baza is a small provincial town, Checa made guitars for other makers, notably for Gerundino Fernandez, Jose Ramirez, Luis Aróstegui, and Eduardo Ferrer.
