Violins: 1920 Frank De Voney Signed and dated on the Soundboard.
Frank De Voney
$7,000
Born in Scotland in 1854, he fabricated instruments in several countries. In that the San Jose Symphony had been founded in 1887, it's possible this maker knew local players in that epoch, having made this violin in Cupertino, CA, it is signed in 1919, though the label states 1920. He certainly knew William J. Lucas when Frank was in Fresno, CA, as they were already professional violin makers at that point. The ads shown here are from "The Violinist" magazine from 1919 onward.
Presently under restoration, very lightweight.
