Lob 357 mm. Justin Victor Diter was born in 1866 in Mirecourt and died in 1941 in Marseilles, France. Apprenticed to Paul Bailly. Worked for Paul Blanchard in Lyon from 1890-1896. Opened a shop on Passage de l’Arque (later at the Hotel de Ville), Lyon with Charles Resuche in the following year, but soon moved to Marseille, taking over the shop of Antoine Marius Richelme, in partnership with Denis Palanque. Joined by his brother Paul in 1901; established at Marseille 1897-1926. Fine work in the style of J. B. Vuillaume; copies of classical instruments with shaded varnish. Paul François Diter was born in 1879 in Mirecourt and died in 1942 in La Penne-sur-Huveaune , France. Bow maker. Brother of J. V. Diter. Pupil of Charles Bazin for bow-making. Worked with his brother in Marseille from 1901 as ‘Diter Frères’. From about 1920 the brothers concentrated on violin work, and Justin left, to be replaced by Paul Lorange. The company was then known as ‘Diter & Lorange’. Paul François retired in 1933, leaving the business to Lorange. Known work in the style of C. N. Bazin.
