Violins: 1790 Louis Moitessier
Louis Moitessier
$17,000
LOB 358 mm. Fine grain Spruce Soundboard, beautiful Maple back sides and scroll-the most complete one could fabricate-the center line goes all the way into the throat. Maitre to the notable violin maker Claude-Victor Rambaux 1820-1824. Louis worked in Mirecourt, France though his marque au fer (brand stamp) said "Moitessier a Paris". This has a very effervescent resonant sound and is quite loud, for a soloist.
Louis Moitessier was born in 1761 and died in 1840, and is known to have made violins and cellos from 1780 onward. Made in Germany.
