Lob 356 mm. Born 1868, died 1949, Worked Paris, France. Pupil of Audinot 1882-1886. Subsequently worked for Gand and Bernardel. Established independently from 1892 at 20 rue Rochechouart, then at 27 rue de Faubourg Poissonière, and finally 37 rue de Rome. Created ‘Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur’ in 1901. Distinguished work on Stradivari and Guarneri models. Also fine bows. Paul Jombar / 20 Rue Rochechouart. Paris / no.19 an.1899 Fait sous la Direction / de Paul Jombar Luthier / 20 Rue Rochechouart à Paris This Violin has the following label text: Paul Jombar / Luthier à Paris / No. 32 an 1919, with the 32 and 19 in the date handwritten in ink. The advertisement in the photos is from the very rare weekly magazine : "Musique et Instruments" published in Paris across the street from the Caressa and Francais violin shop. This ad dates from December, 1 1911. The ad states that in June of 1910, Paul Jombar's cello had beaten 5 other old Italian instruments in an International Lutherie competition. The contest for best tone was held in Brussels.

This violin has willow corner blocks like those of Antonio Stradivari, Guarneri was the only one in Cremona who used spruce according to Ernest Doring.
