Lob is 357 mm. He was born in 1794 in Darney, France and died in 1883 in Mirecourt, France. Apprenticed in Mirecourt, then employed in Paris at various ateliers. Established his own business in Mirecourt which was quickly very successful. Awards gained in Paris 1839, 1849 and 1855, and London 1862. Very prolific maker, especially after c.1844, following Stradivari and rarely Amati models. He worked from 1830-1839 for J. B. Vuillaume who inserted his own label. He made several instruments passed off as the work of Gaspar Duiffoprugcar in the wake of misguided attempts to show that this maker, and not Andrea Amati, was the originator of the violin in Lyon in the early 16th century. Very fine professional work in the style of Vuillaume. The inside of this violin is branded H. Derazey. When Honore Derazey worked for J. B. Vuillaume, there were only 2 other violin makers in the same workshop: Charles Buthod and Nicolas Francois Vuillaume.
Excellent condition, very beautiful complete scroll.
